Record Entries for The 2016 Community Chest Wheelock Swim for Millions
The 2016 Community Chest Wheelock Swim for Millions, due to take place on 30 October (Sunday) at Repulse Bay Beach, will see the highest number of entries since the event was first held in 2013. The biggest jump is in the relay race category with 107 entries - up from 88 in 2015 - from corporations, non-government organisations, disciplined forces and schools.
Other event categories: Leaders' Lap, Family Relay Race, and Golden Kilometer Race are just as well-received, with one new category – Swim for Fun – designed for non-competitive swimmers.
The event aims to raise funds for youth services provided by welfare agencies of The Community Chest of Hong Kong; every dollar raised, without deduction of administration expenses, will go to the services.
While the races are on, family members and friends of the participants can have fun at the games booths and bouncy castle, or building sand castles, making it an enjoyable Sunday for all.
The event is steered by organising committee chairman Dr Douglas Woo JP, and Co-chairmen: Mr Stephen Fung, Mr Stanley Sun, Mr Weber Lo and Mr Jonathan Zeman. Title sponsor Wheelock and Company Limited, in addition to Circle K and Stride Rite have continued to lend their support; two new sponsors: Citi and Lan Kwai Fong Group are there to make the event a greater success.
The Community Chest of Hong Kong is also grateful to major supporting organisations: Community Chest PCSch Volunteer, Fuji Photo Products Co., Ltd., The Hong Kong Life Saving Society, Hong Kong Sea School and St John Ambulance Brigade.
About The Community Chest of Hong Kong
The Community Chest of Hong Kong was established in 1968 as an independent, non-profit making organisation neither funded, nor operated by the Government. Each year, the Chest organises fund-raising events to benefit over 150 member social welfare agencies that reach out to more than two million beneficiaries in Hong Kong in six major areas of services: children & youth, elderly, family & child welfare, medical & health, rehabilitation & aftercare, and community development. The Chest’s administrative expenses come from a subsidised grant from our partner-in-charity, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, in addition to income from investments. This allows the Chest to allocate 100% of funds raised to charitable use; this operations model makes the Chest unique among its peers, and helps fulfil its mission to act as trustee of the donors.
